March 14

Dear Friends,

In consideration of the escalating severity of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic and out of an abundance of caution, the board of the North Star Gay Rodeo Association (NSGRA) has decided to postpone our March 21st Chaps & Hats Underwear Auction and the March 28th Denim & Diamonds fundraiser. The decision to postpone fundraisers is not taken lightly. We need the financial backing of these fundraisers to help underwrite the cost of the 2020 North Star Regional Rodeo scheduled for July 24th-26th at the Dead Broke Arena in Hugo, MN. We also recognize that this decision will impact performers, models, volunteers, patrons and our generous venue host-The Saloon. We have had to balance these concerns against the concern for the health of our community.

The board of NSGRA is monitoring the evolving public health crisis. The scheduled membership meeting set for March 21st will go forward as a conference call. More information will be forthcoming with regard to rescheduling these fundraisers and whether we will need to postpone further fundraisers.

Thank you for your continued support of NSGRA. We need you and appreciate your understanding of this difficult situation. Please visit www.nsgra.org for updates about upcoming fundraisers. Tax deductible donations can also be made online and are most welcome.

March 21, 2020

Dear friends,

The North Star Gay Rodeo Association Board of Directors regrets to announce the cancelation of the 2020 North Star Regional Rodeo scheduled for July 24-26 at the Dead Broke Arena in Hugo, Minnesota. This matter was carefully considered at the March 21st board/membership conference call meeting. We are already working to bring back the best in amateur GLBTQA rodeo next summer.

The decision to cancel a biennial rodeo is not taken lightly. Countless hours are invested in planning, fundraising and promoting our signature event. The incredible work of our volunteers, supporters, board of directors and royalty team should be recognized and appreciated for their determination while this crisis has expanded.

The current realities surrounding this public health crisis do not allow us to fundraise or speak to prospective sponsors in person. We are canceling our April fundraisers and are currently unsure about hosting May events. The great uncertainty of when we will be able to resume these tasks and how this pandemic will pan out makes moving forward unwise. Waiting to make the decision to cancel would risk wasting money by ordering buckles and flights for rodeo officials.

We will be working with our sponsors, charity partner and other stakeholders in the coming days. We aren’t giving up. We will face this crisis and carry on. Thank you for your continued support of NSGRA. We need you and appreciate your understanding of this difficult situation. Please visit www.nsgra.org for updates about upcoming fundraisers. Tax deductible donations can also be made online and are most welcome.

Dear friends,

Upon consulting with the latest Minnesota COVID-19 directives and with Kings and Queens bar in Waterloo, Iowa, NSGRA is unable to host events in May. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your understanding. Unfortunately, we will need to examine future plans with great care and postponing events might go on. Our plan is to take it one month at a time. Please visit www.nsgra.org for updates about upcoming fundraisers. Your support is needed and appreciated.Tax deductible donations can also be made online and are most welcome.
